BIOGRAPHY
He graduated in graphic design from Universidade da Cidade in 2004. He held his first solo exhibition in 2003 at the Ken's Art Gallery in Florence, Italy, where he studied photography and art history. In Rio de Janeiro, he took classes in a live model with Bandeira de Mello and took courses in painting, with João Magalhães and Luiz Ernesto, at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. Over the last two decades, he has presented his work in Brazil and abroad.
Antonio Bokel reveals a constant connection between art and the fabric of urban life, as constitutive parts of its symbolic universe. It resorts to an experience of the city as existential sequences - all build their reference space, all seem to be a territory, there is an aesthetic and spatial extension in a wider layer. In this zone of intersection, a capacity for poetic improvisation is present for the assimilation of the most varied materials and supports, such as enigmatic objects, urban instruments, insertion of letters, word games or literary fragments, that transit in murals, on the surfaces of screens, photos, sculptures or space installations. But it is in his painting that he does research on the movements of the movement, indicative of an integrative force of his aesthetic concerns, in the balanced formats, shapes and volumes in a mosaic of rhythmic brushstrokes that bring to the surface as asymmetries of the world.
