BIOGRAPHY
The artist mixes literary references and the Baroque period in paintings that refer to an imaginary tropical world. With a strong character of visual narratives, his works explore the idea of the exotic often associated with the tropics. In more recent series, Varela has alternated paintings in vibrant tones and psychedelic forms and others in reduced color palettes, such as monochromatic in black, white and blue.
